St. George's Day: Dogs Trust Appeal and Best of British

Happy St. George's Day! More and more people seem to be paying attention to the patron saint of England after years of him languishing in second place behind Ireland's St. Patrick.
I've spent the morning doing a bit of research and finding out more about some iconic British dog breeds such as the Bulldog, Old English Sheepdog and Cocker Spaniel; my 'best' of British breeds blog can be found over on our Blogger page. It's a bit daft to say 'best' really, though since every pedigree and crossbreed pooch deserves a loving home.
Speaking of which, you might want to hear about another George, a four-month-old Akita / German Shepherd Cross that has found his way to Dogs Trust's Darlington Rehoming Centre.
He was handed in with his seven brothers and sisters as part of an unwanted litter. All the other pups have been rehomed, leaving brave little George waiting for his knight in shining armour!
Sue Embleton, Dogs Trust Darlington Rehoming Centre Manager, comments:
“George is so affectionate and really loves people and dogs. As a young puppy he has quite a lot of energy but we don’t imagine he’ll be slaying dragons anytime soon!
We hope we can find him a happy, loving home where he can find all the love and cuddles he deserves.”
Ideally, George would be best suited to a family with children over the age of six, where the owners will be around for most of the day and have plenty of time to train a gallant but cheeky young pup.
If you think you can offer George a home please call Dogs Trust Darlington on 01325 333114.
Dogs Trust cares for 16,000 dogs a year and its 17 Rehoming Centres look after 2000 dogs at any one time. If you are interested in rehoming a rescue dog please call 0207 837 0006 or go to www.dogstrust.org.uk
